Job Description
Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is a national Non-Governmental Organization registered in accordance with the proclamation for Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019 with a certificate No 0022. MCMDO is currently implementing 24 emergency response and development projects in all regions and City Administrations in Ethiopia. .
To meet its objectives MCMDO calls for competent professionals to apply for the following vacant position.
Job summary
Under supervision of project field coordinator and in collaboration with Emergency WASH officer, the hygiene and sanitation officer will carry out the day to day activity of hygiene and sanitation promotion and behavioral change intervention component of the project. He or she prepare detail plan of the hygiene promotion activities and follow up its implementation, monitor and take appropriate action.

About You
Duties and responsibility
- Conduct qualitative assessment to identify risk and enabling factors for hygiene promotion and behavioral change intervention
- Prepare detail implementation plan for hygiene promotion/education activities in coordination with the WASH officer and field coordinator
- Supervise the activities of hygiene promoter selected from the community
- Ensure implementation of hygiene promotion activities as per planned approaches/methods through use of existing government structure and volunteers/incentive workers,
- Design and develop training manual on hygiene and sanitation promotion and undertake training for HEW-HW
- Carry out regular water quality surveillance at water distribution point and house hold
- In collaboration with Woreda water and energy office, carry out chlorination of drinking water sources
- develop, testing, printing and positioning of culturally appropriate IEC materials, and monitoring tools and ensure proper use of the same,
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports/updates,
- Ensure needs of most vulnerable are taken in to account at all stages of hygiene promotion intervention/s,
- Recruit and train volunteers including WASHCO
- Select and design the most appropriate form of sanitation system (to include excreta disposal, vector control, solid waste disposal, drainage) taking full account of local conditions, resources, customs and cultural norms.
- Document and share lessons learned and success stories in relation to hygiene to inform future programming
- Ensure proper implementation of hygiene and sanitation component of WASH projects
- Ensure integration of Water, sanitation and hygiene promotion components of projects
- Prepare monthly field reports covering all hygiene and sanitation components and submit to field coordinator
- Undertake need assessments and contribute in the preparation of new proposals,
- Ensure that procurement s are timely initiated, monitored and prioritized by the logistics team;
Skill and requirement
- Bachelor’s science degree in environmental health and sanitation, Public Health Officer or nurses )
- 3+ years of relevant work experience (minimum of 3 years in NGO)
- Experience in emergency response, including rapid assessments and needs analysis
- Experience in hygiene promotion in humanitarian contexts
- Profound cross-cultural awareness and sound knowledge of public health issues
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
- extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
- Well acquainted with SPHERE Standard
- Excellent in English both writing and speaking. both Amharic and Tigrigna is an asset
