Floresta Ethiopia is non- governmental organization based in San Diego CA, USA, whose mission is to reverse poverty and deforestation by transforming the lives of rural poor.
NOW Floresta Ethiopia is implementing different developmental societal activities to improved economic empowerment and environmental restoration in Andabet woreda, amhara region, Ethiopia. On top of its expansion for a certain planning years, the program, Floresta Ethiopia would like to invite competent candidates who fulfill the requirement of the indicated different vacant positions listed below.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- The Economic Empowerment is tasked with the overall programmatic initiatives of economic empowerment of Floresta Ethiopia in terms of coordination and implementation, provision of support to the monitoring and evaluation of the economic empowerment initiatives.
- Support Floresta staff/volunteers conduct participatory research on Environment Friendly Economic practices suitable to the Ecosystem.
- The Economic Empowerment Head section will lead the trainings and capacity development initiatives of Floresta Ethiopia on women’s economic rights and strategies.
- seek out new ideas/techniques from communities, universities, government, NGO’s or other actors both within Ethiopia and internationally that might help farmers in Andabet to empower them in their Economy without deforestation.
- Implement economic empowerment activities relating to implementation of women’s economic rights and strategies, engendering the economic development process and entrepreneurship initiatives
- Draft request for proposals for activities under the objectives of economic empowerment and lead the selection
- motivate and train farmer groups and Floresta staff/volunteers in Economic Empowerment practices
- equip Floresta staff/volunteers with strong facilitation skills in order to build Economically empowered local peoples and groups (Village Saving and Lending Associations)
- Work with colleagues to develop a plan for empowering the Women peoples in their economic activities.
- Effectively and efficiently manage economic related staff/resources in order to have the greatest impact possible on communities in the target watershed.
- must have respect for farmers, recognizing that innovation in saving builds on the depth of knowledge and understanding that farmers have of their live
- Support and facilitate the completion of regular /monthly, quarterly and annual report
- Maintaining the share outs of the Saving Groups at the end of the cycle.
- Train, lead, coordinate and manage Village Agents and other volunteers of the program
- Provide support and supervisory role to Program Associate in maintaining relationship with partners in implementation of the program.
- Support the civil society implementing partners in monitoring, reporting and advocating for implementation of the program.
- Conduct field visits as and when needed with support of the Program Manager to monitor the implementation of trainings and other initiatives supported by the officers and village agents and provide guidance and technical assistance to all program partners.
- Ensure quality and timely implementation of the agreed activities with government partners and civil society partners and provide the needed support to them.
- Be on top of the budget for economic empowerment activities and ensure that budget expenditures are in accordance with the agreed plans.
- Coordination of economic empowerment programs, Maintain close contacts with the program manager and government partners on the implementation of economic empowerment activities
- Serve as the resource person for the economic empowerment initiatives and provide advisory updates to the pillar management on the interventions in this area.
- Support the team members and/or directly facilitate the trainings and workshops for/with partners on the issues around women’s economic participation
- When authorized, represent the program on the platforms relating to women’s economic empowerment program.
- As and when requested, give presentations on different forums to stakeholders on the interventions of the Floresta Ethiopia programmers’ and initiatives in the economic empowerment arena.
- Under the guidance of the Program Manager and in close coordination with the officer and Admin, lead the monitoring of all economic empowerment initiatives of the program and provide oversight on evaluation of those activities as per the donors’ agreement for program strengthening while taking initiatives to engage in proactive and remedial action for the current and future similar initiatives.
- Provide substantive support to the program manager in the development, review and finalization of quarterly, annual and all donor reports, meeting the quality and standard requirements.
- Undertake any other tasks as may be requested by the program admin and program manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Passion and ability to equip Floresta Ethiopia staff/volunteers and farmer groups with practical skills to test new saving techniques that contributes to economic Empowerment.
- ability to educate project visitors and donors on principles of holistic development, Economic Empowerment, and other situations
- ability to facilitate discussions/workshops with FE staff/volunteers and farmer groups in order to allow full participation
- Bridge building skills in bringing together diverse stakeholder
- Help other staff and participants to understand the inherent (non-utilitarian) value of all creation
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Good knowledge and understanding of foreign exchange;
- High computer literacy essential, especially for Excel;
- Flexible and adaptable with an ability to adapt appropriately within various situations.

- Strong personal commitment to Floresta Ethiopia vision, mission and goals and to put in to practice.

- A proven ability to liaise with a myriad of stakeholders and partners, including government, civil society, international organizations and grassroots organizations
- Ability to travel inside and outside the country for meetings, visit and other program matters.
Qualification
- BA/MA in Economics, Management, Cooperative Accounting, Business Management, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Financial Management, Accounting 6/4 years and above relevant experience.
- Experience with Economic Empowerment program office and manager for NGO in Ethiopia is more valuable.
