Job Description

Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Ethiopia started its operation in 1995 and has been primarily implementing emergency, relief and early recovery programs in water hygiene and sanitation, food security and livelihood, nutrition and protection sectors.

COOPI is currently implementing 10 projects in Ethiopia focusing on WASH and Livelihood managing 7 field bases and a staff of over 100 employees.

COOPI is looking for qualified and competent Compliance and Financial Reporting Officer to be based in Addis Ababa.

Position: Compliance and Financial Reporting Officer

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Activities/ Responsibilities

He/she is responsible to support the Projects’ Finance Manager for the timely preparation of financial reports and supplementary information, as well as all the documentation necessary for project audits, in compliance with internal procedures as well as donor and government requirements, and in particular:

  • Supporting the Country Projects’ Finance Manager for the correct preparation and timely delivery of financial reports to the different donors (expense list and all necessary documentation);
  • Responsible for the verification and follow-up of the partners accountancy, reporting and related documentation
  • Responsible for timely preparing all possible documentation requested for project audits;
  • Responsible for the correct preparation and timely delivery of any supplementary information/additional documentation requested following the submission of financial reports;
  • Responsible for requesting and archiving complete documentation regarding expenses sustained or paid at HQ level;
  • Responsible for requesting and archiving any program document requested for project financial reports and audits;
  • Responsible for archiving the final version of financial reports on the Cloud;
  • Support the administrative department in requesting relevant information and supporting documents related to partners’ expenses;
  • Support relevant departments in any compliance-related donor activities;
  • Collaborate with internal and external audit units when requested by the Supervisor;
  • Proactively audit processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses;
  • Collaborate to the creation of sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them;
  • Train and support junior staff in direct line management, if any;
  • Perform other necessary tasks related to the role and requested by the Supervisor.

Expected Results

Financial reports, supporting documents and supplementary information are correctly prepared and timely shared. Project audits are well prepared and no relevant findings arise.

About You

Qualification and Experience

  • University degree in accounting/business/economics or related fields
  • A minimum of five years of relevant working experience with International NGOs in a similar position
  • Fluency in English and Amharic
  • Proven capacity to work in a team is essential. Experience in managing staff is an advantage.
  • Computer literate, with excellent command of Microsoft Excel and double-entry book-keeping software

Preferred:

  • Experience in liaising with governmental/local authorities, IOs and NGOs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in stressful environments and under pressure.
