The Opportunity (Community mobilizer)
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
The position holder is responsible for providing knowledge and awareness to the local community about nutrition and hygiene, promote nutrition and inform community members on available services, mobilize community members, and support implementation of community-based nutrition project activities. The position holder is responsible to provide essential support to Save the Children’s emergency programmes by being responsible for the SCI supplementary feeding program beneficiary information collection and recording accurately.
KEY Roles and Responsibilities:
- Community Mobilizers will provide awareness-raising sessions in their community
- Conduct individual and group awareness sessions for men, women, adolescent boys, and girls at FDC
- Actively participate in related community meetings and community major events.
- Support outreach activities and services including crowd control
- Act in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner towards the community.
- Ensure SFP guidelines are in place and are adhered
- Register each new <5 admission, PLW and other vulnerable groups in the registration book and filling out an individual ration card for such admissions
- Register all <5, PLW absentees at the end of each distribution
- Make a list of all <5 absentees and defaulters, share it with the Woreda health Office
- Proper handling of documents and share as it is needed
- Compile and prepare bi weekly and monthly report.
- Update the registration book with the relevant details (Wgt and Hgt % wt/ht calculations) of <5 attendees
- Able to interpret anthropometric data and provide feedback to carers regarding child’ maturational status
- Record all <5, PLW discharges/defaulters/ transfers from the SFP and highlight such exits clearly
- Observe all <5s progress in the programme and carry out the relevant intervention (education/referral/reassurance and praise of carer) with support and guidance of Nurses
- Identify and report success stories, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma and above in Health and other related fields.
- Sufficiently literate and have experience to screen using MUAC, register children and Pregnant and Lactating women’s who meet the program criteria for admission
- Excellent working in team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including local communities and government officials.
- Knowledge of local context is an asset.
- Fluency in Afar Af Language and English, both written and spoken.
