CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 2: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Learning and Research Specialist supports the overall coordination and management of the operational research studies and learning activities, aimed at providing rigorous data/ information to make the Growth through Nutrition program implementation more effective and provide the project with important program and policy information

Reports to:  COP

 

Dimensions: Growth Through Nutrition operates nationally and in five regions of Ethiopia and with six international and five local partners to improve the nutritional status of Children and women. It has more than 40 staff in Addis project office.  It is a six year 78 million USD project funded by Feed the Future through USAID.

The Communications and Reporting Specialists works across GTN staff, including partners, to ensure the work of the project is effectively communicated to stakeholders. The specialist will work closely with the SCI Communication Team to plan and deliver high level events and activities and provide guidance to all project staff to ensure compliant and effective communication. The role-holder also supports content management and uploads for the project website.

A.KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Facilitate and organize learning events (20%)

Ensure effective external project communication

  • Serving as the communications lead for the project.
  • Prepare project communications plan and regularly update
  • Plan and request support needed from SCI Communication Team on timely basis
  • Responding to visibility/communications requests of USAID and Save the Children
  • Attend all meetings and trainings called by USAID communication office
  • Provide guidance to all project staff, including partners, to ensure compliant branding per the USAID approved branding and marking plan of Growth through Nutrition
  • Coordinating visibility / close-out events as necessary and serving as focal point for logistics of events including drafting agendas, producing materials needed for event, and planning venue, guest list, etc.
  • Plan and facilitate regular online or physical learning events to share project technical updates and learning
  • Work with SCI Communications Team to ensure effective media engagement and coverage of key GTN project events
  • Collaborate with Tufts University to ensure that project website is handed over to Save the Children and frequently updated with new content.

Generate communication content

Gather successes from field and showcasing stories through various media including stories, photographs, and videos by working closely with the Communications team

  • Producing project-related visibility materials.
  • Participating on online platforms to convey updates.
  • Supporting the project management team in reporting, documentation, and coordination of program related briefs, Newsletter, and updates
  • Work with technical advisors to prepare project technical briefs.

Project donor reporting and documentation

  • Reviewing, editing, and formatting of the project Semi-annual and annual project reports and program technical reports and present to the project management team
  • Documenting all communications and meeting notes with USAID and monthly AOR meetings, and ensuring that actions plans are tracked.

Provide program coordination support to COP and Senior Leadership Team

  • With program support coordinator, organize the quarterly project review meetings with partners and regional teams developing the agenda and materials as needed and ensuring that action plans are tracked, followed up and reported back to the following meetings.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATION

  • Education- BA degree level in the area of communications, business management or social development
  • Recommended a minimum of 8 year experience in an NGO environment
  • Experience working with COPs or senior management team
  • Familiarity with USAID branding and marking rules and regulations preferred
  • Excellent written and spoken English required
  • Proven capacity to prepare high quality project reports and edit, format, and review program and technical documents
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, and highly competent in developing and implementing systems, business processes and procedures
  • Experience of working in large diverse teams with colleagues from many cultures backgrounds
  • Highly competent in Microsoft office software,
  • Experience with graphic design in Photoshop an asset
  • Experience with webpage management preferred
  • Excellent coordination skills
  • Confident in dealing with large groups of people and with senior level visitors and partners
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Commitment to Save the Children values

Desirable

  • Strong leadership; communication and time management skills

Experience with multi-sectoral nutrition projects such as USAID ENGINE or USAID Growth through Nutrition
