Mekdim Ethiopia National Association (MENA) is an indigenous national non-governmental, non-political and not for profit humanitarian organization working in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment and support services for the past 30 years throughout the country.

Accordingly, MENA is now in process of recruiting employees for its Global-Fund/GC7-HIV Prevention Project sub-granted from CCRDA aimed at “Expanding Access to Comprehensive HIV Prevention and Care Services for Key and Priority Populations in Selected High-Incidence Woredas/Towns”  of South Ethiopia and Oromia Regional State Government; thus, the organization invites interested and competent candidates on the following vacant posts:

Job Description for DIC Cleaner

  1. Job Purpose

The Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the Drop-In Center (DIC), ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all staff, clients, and visitors.

  1. Key Responsibilities

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Perform daily cleaning and disinfection of all areas, including offices, waiting rooms, counseling rooms, restrooms, and common spaces.
  • Ensure floors, walls, windows, and furniture are clean and well-maintained.
  • Regularly empty trash bins and ensure proper disposal of waste.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen areas, ensuring proper storage of cleaning supplies.
  • Follow a scheduled cleaning routine and respond to additional cleaning requests promptly.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, tissues, and cleaning materials in restrooms and other areas.

Safety and Hygiene

  • Ensure safe storage and handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Identify and report any maintenance issues (e.g., broken equipment or fixtures) to the DIC Coordinator.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, particularly when handling cleaning agents or waste.

Support Services

  • Assist in preparing meeting rooms or spaces by arranging furniture and ensuring cleanliness.
  • Help maintain a welcoming environment by keeping the center tidy and organized.
  • Support in the distribution of hygiene kits or materials, if required.
  1. Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum of Grade 12 completion.

Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience as a cleaner, preferably in a health or community-based setting.

Skills and Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning practices and the safe use of cleaning products.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain high hygiene standards.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Fluency in [local language] is an advantage.
