Organizational Background

HUNDEE – Oromo Grassroots Development Initiative is a local non-partisan, not-for profit and secular charity organization established in April 1995. HUNDEE broadly envisions seeing a just world where women, men, boys and girls live in dignity and prosperity. To this end, our organization seeks to hire competent and qualified candidate who fulfill the following criteria of the position.

Job Summary

The post is a professional job that requires the ability to handle project accounting activities, maintaining financial records, ensuring that financial documents are handled properly, prepare periodic financial reports using Public Sectors Accounting Standard (IPSAS) and ensure that financial documents are delivered to the head office every month/on time.

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Under the supervision and direction of Area Office Project Coordinator, the Accountant is primarily responsible to:
  •  Maintain financial records, inspect and receive financial documents from Area Office staff members; properly organize and file financial documents at the area office,  verify the accuracy of the invoices for payments,
  •  Monitor advance payments and ensure that they are settled timely with the necessary supporting documents,
  • Control bank account balances and report when the balance is low so as to take the necessary action before checks are prepared/written,
  •  Prepare check payments, handle checkbooks and vouchers with due care and in safety place,
  •  Prepare project financial reports using Public Sectors Accounting Standard (IPSAS); check that the project financial resources are utilized efficiently and judiciously,
  •  Ensure that the project budget is not over utilized using and maintaining budget tracking sheets; ensure that the project level financial documents are delivered to the head office every month;
  • Gives advice and assistance to area office coordinator and other project staff members,
  • Undertake other related activities as instructed by his/her immediate supervisor.

Terms of employment

  • Initially for one year with possibility of renewal depending on merit and job continuity

Job Requirements

Required Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in accounting, finance or other related fields of study with a minimum of 4 years direct and proven work experiences preferably in NGO,

Required Skills

  • Ability to understand and adhere to donor compliances, different regional and national regulations and meet deadline, Proven knowledge of working with Microsoft Packages and handle multiple tasks,

Language ability

  • Ability to speak, read and write in Afaan Oromo, Amharic and English languages
