Job Description
The accountant will serve in a full-time roll (starting with a 6-month contract) to cover the financial and accounting duties for PATH Ministries International. The accountant will be assisted by a cashier in fulfilling these duties. The accountant will be required to use/learn to use QuickBooks accounting software in order to work hand-in-hand with the international office.
Keep the account records by using the existing accounting system
Communicate with and coordinate with the US office-based accountant
Ensure financial rules & regulations are adhering to the existing procedures
Prepare the payroll and timely deposit of taxes to the tax authority
Ensure budgets are prepared in accordance with the designed program/projects
Prepare monthly bank and book reconciliations
Code all Cost and Expense Documents according to the company’s chart of accounts
Prepare and update Fixed Assets register and follow up the location of fixed assets
Collect, filter and prepare VAT, withholding, pensions, and income tax summary
Ensure that the procurement procedures of Vita/RTI is adhered
Ensure all financial documents are kept safe in an organized manner
Ensure the documents and work sheets are properly filled for future reference
Participate in preparation and year end closing of accounts for auditing
Make sure advance payments are being settled on regular basis.
Prepare and submit quarterly fund requests in reference to approved budget
Ensure that all procurements of goods and services are carried out with the objective of obtaining the best value for money and the best possible service to the requester
Performs other related duties as required
Job Requirements
Person Specifications
BA in Accounting
3+ years of experience
Knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software or willingness to quickly learn how to use it
Working proficiency in spoken and written Afan Oromo and English
Ability to understand and respect the cultural, religious, and political environment and to work well with staff and local authorities in a diplomatic manner
Good interpersonal skills and team player with sensitivity to cultural diversity
Competencies
Ability to plan own work, set priorities, complete work under pressure or when faced with competing demands and send financial reports on time
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with a high degree of proficiency in Excel
